The Moment We’ve All Been Waiting For

Finally, the finalists of the Garuda Indonesia International Photo Contest (GIIPC) 2011 have been selected. Thank you for showing such exemplary patience. As you can imagine, selecting 16 out of more than 12,500 photos was not an easy process. A panel of judges reviewed these submissions and decided to choose the 15 best photos for the final round and one for the special award.


The special award goes to Chainarong Phrammanee from Thailand. This year’s finalists come from seven countries, where the participants from the host country dominate the stage. Six out of seven are represented by Asian countries: Indonesia sends 7 photographers, Vietnam 3 photographers, China represented by two finalists while Bangladesh, Thailand, India and Europe’s Portugal claim one spot in the final round respectively.

On the final round, all finalists are expected to capture the beauty of Indonesia in terms of nature, culture and society, with 'Inspiring Indonesia' as its theme. The categories of the awards are best culture, best people, best landscape, and special award for best marine photography.


More than 6,000 photographers, both professional and amateur, participate in this year’s competition. They come from 43 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Moldova, Montenegro, Myanmar, The Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, North America, Pakistan, The Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, The United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Venezuela.
